Mohawk Announces Winners of the Mohawk Show 2000

COHOES, NY - Mohawk Paper Mills is proud to announce the winners its first annual design competition: The Mohawk Show. The winners are five graphic designers whose submissions combine excellent design with superior production and printing.

The winners were selected from more than 1,000 entries from the United States and Canada. In addition to receiving a framed award, winners will design a paper promotion for Mohawk in 2001 and will have their work exhibited both in The Mohawk Show Exhibition Catalog and in a traveling presentation scheduled for more than 50 venues across the United States.

"The contest was designed as a celebration of higher thinking in graphic design," explains Beth Povie, advertising manager for Mohawk. "Without exception, the quality of the entries was superb. Clearly our customers are extremely talented, skillfully crafting work of beauty and intelligence."

Entries were judged on the basis of intelligent design, appropriate use of paper, and production excellence. Four judges gathered at the national AIGA building in New York City to select the winners. Judges included: Michael Bierut of Pentagram in New York, Noreen Morioka of Adams Morioka in California, Lana Rigsby of Rigsby Design in Texas, and Sharon Werner of Werner Design Werks in Minnesota.

Submissions for the second annual Mohawk Show will be accepted now through March 31, 2001. Winners of this contest will be MohawkÍs guests at the National AIGA Conference in Washington, D.C. As such, they will receive free conference registration and premium accommodations, and will be honored during a special reception at the conference. Categories remain the same, with one winner selected for each.
