COHOES, NY - Now available are five beautifully crafted promotions designed by the winners of the First Annual Mohawk Show. Judged in 2000, the show was introduced by Mohawk to celebrate excellence in design and printing on their premium papers. As the grand prize for the 2000 show, each winner was commissioned by Mohawk to create a promotion linking a specific Mohawk product with a particular paper attribute, reinforcing the company's commitment to premium paper excellence. Mohawk Show winners consist of a diverse group of design practices from across the country, including: EAI, Atlanta, GA Brian Fink, Axiom Creative Group, Charlotte, NC Richard Cassis, Sparc, Chicago, IL Dennis Ichiyama, Lafayette, IN Jennifer Roycroft, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, New York, NY and Andy
Campbell, Fidelity Investments, Boston, MA "Designed for use as sales tools, these unique promotions celebrate the creative spirit and illustrate the incredible range and quality in the Mohawk line of premium papers," explained Laura Shore, creative director for Mohawk. The promotions use a broad range of printing techniques and Mohawk text and cover papers. A diverse and extensive selection of images, colors and stories ensure both educational and entertaining content. Limited only by a 12-page requirement and a predetermined size, the designers were relatively free to interpret "their" paper attribute. "I was extremely pleased with the final pieces, as they accurately reflect
the diverse styles and production techniques employed by designers and
printers, as well as the beauty, intelligence and spirit of Mohawk," commented
Jennifer Wilkerson, graphic designer at Aurora Design in Niskayuna, NY.
Ms. Wilkerson served as project manager, working closely with the designers
and guiding the process from beginning to end. She also designed the
envelope in which the five promotions are packaged. Designers used various strategies to explore their assigned themes. These included the use of a fictional character dubbed "Mr. Smooth" to reinforce the smoothness of Navajo; "personal" perforated cards to test the opacity power of Options; and metaphorical images to demonstrate shades of white in Satin 2.0. One designer used a portfolio of limited edition prints to illustrate the formation of Mohawk Superfine and the expressive possibilities of letterforms. Another chose fun, bright images on 50|10plus to explain how Mohawk papers can help smooth the transition between digital and offset printing - making them a perfect fit 'for all the ways you print'. "The Mohawk Show has become so successful that it is now a permanent feature of our marketing program," said Shore. "Mohawk is now accepting entries for the Third Annual Mohawk Show. Best of Show winners will enjoy a trip to the design-friendly city of their choice: New York, San Francisco, or Amsterdam.
