Mohawk Adds Educational Category to Annual Mohawk Show

Fifth Annual Mohawk Show Now Accepting Entries Through May 31, 2004

FOR RELEASE: January 28, 2004

COHOES, NY – Mohawk Paper Mills, Inc. recently announced the addition of a new category in its annual Mohawk Show: education.  All designers in the education field are invited to enter the show. Entries for the Mohawk Show 5 will be accepted through Monday, May 31, 2004.

“We’ve seen a dramatic increase of Mohawk Show entries in the education field,” says Mohawk’s Vice President of Marketing Communications, Laura Shore.  “The school work ranges from search pieces and viewbooks to development campaigns and annual reports.  The Mohawk Show is a great opportunity for designers in the education market to have their work recognized,” continues Shore.

Winning work
Mohawk will award one winner [from the educational category] a $3,000 travel voucher for a weekend spa retreat.  The package includes travel, accommodations and therapeutic spa treatments [winners may choose to accept a $3,000 cash award instead].  In addition, Mohawk will feature the winning projects in a traveling exhibit, on Mohawk’s website, in trade journal ads and in a printed Mohawk Show 5 catalog.  Winning work is selected based on intelligent design, virtuosity and exceptional marriage of Mohawk paper and ink, as well as form and content.

To be eligible, entries must be printed primarily on one or more of Mohawk’s fine papers, including Superfine, Navajo, Options, Satin 2.0, Vellum, Tomohawk, Ultrafelt, Irish Linen, Opaque, 50/10 and Mohawk Color Copy.  All commercial work is eligible, but not limited to corporate brochures, annual reports, direct mail, books, letterhead, posters, etc.  Work designed for Mohawk Paper Mills is not eligible.

About The Mohawk Show
The Mohawk Show is a celebration of higher thinking in graphic design, developed for unique individuals who aspire to create communications that combine brilliant design, intelligent paper selection and superior production.  Mohawk began the show five years ago.  “Our goal was to challenge conventional wisdom and develop a paper mill competition that would be both rigorous and inclusive – fostering a sense of community and celebrating the roots of design in print and craftsmanship,” comments Shore.

The Mohawk Show has been judged by some of the best designers working today.  Each year, Mohawk’s select group of judges includes four leading designers from different regions of the country who represent very different design practices, including Bill Grant, Ann Willoughby and Michael Bierut, to name a few.  Mohawk welcomes entries from around the world.  Past winners and finalists have been from cities as diverse as Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Hong Kong.

Judges for the Fifth Annual Mohawk Show include, Sean Adams, Partner at AdamsMorioka, Los Angeles, CA; Jamie Koval, President of VSA Partners, Chicago, IL; Abbott Miller, Partner at Pentagram, NYC; Cheryl Towler-Weese, Partner at studio blue, Chicago, IL.
