Mohawk Announces its School Work Kit

New School Work Kit Provides Support for University and College Designers

FOR RELEASE: January 30, 2004

COHOES, NY – Today, colleges are brands. PR, development, alumni relations and student recruitment are all important stakeholders in building a brand. Even with the proliferation of technology as both a marketing and branding tool, printed communications and publications continue to be extremely important marketing tools in driving institutional advancement for colleges and universities.  That’s why Mohawk Paper Mills created its first-ever Mohawk School Work Kit.

Mohawk School Work includes a wide range of college and university publications taken from leading designers all over the country. From magazines and viewbooks, to newsletters and annual reports, this specialized kit is a reference tool for those who are involved in alumni relations, development and recruitment. Mohawk School Work presents a full range of design styles and approaches, including a publication for Dartmouth faculty and a newsletter for Tufts.

The impetus behind the development of this collection came during the judging of Mohawk Show 4 last summer.  “We were with the judges, reviewing all of the work and Bill Grant, the Show Chair, commented on the number of pieces that were submitted to the Show by colleges and universities.  At the end of the judging, we set them aside.  We were impressed not only by the quality of the work but recognized that this is a distinct field,” says Mohawk’s Vice President of Marketing Communications, Laura Shore.

“The needs of college communicators and designers is very specialized,” she continues. “For instance, university/college designers are typically multi-taskers, responsible for every single aspect of a project:  design, typesetting, production, art direction, print buying, photo shoots, press checks…the works.  We wanted to assemble a collection that would reflect on the full-range of techniques and approaches to meet their needs,” Shore continues.

This kit is produced in limited-edition quantities. College designers interested in seeing the collection should call their Mohawk Sales Rep to arrange for an in-person presentation.
