Mohawk Paper Mills, Inc. Announces Winners of the Fifth Annual Mohawk Show

FOR RELEASE: August 11, 2004

COHOES, NY – In its fifth year, the Mohawk Show honors work produced on Mohawk paper that is exceptional in both design and print production. Among 900 entries, five top winners and 18 finalists were recently announced at the Fifth Annual Mohawk Show. Designers from around the country are recognized.

“Because of Mohawk's unique status and the quality of its paper, the Mohawk Show competition draws in exceptional work from all over the country, and even many international entries,” says Abbott Miller, partner at Pentagram, NYC and chair of Mohawk Show 5. “This makes the Mohawk Show a truly competitive arena and a reliable indicator of the best work being produced in the graphic arts industry,” continues Miller.

Award winning pieces [please refer to winner list on page three] included a variety of design techniques, ranging from a college view book with a unique color palette to a paper promo with pop cultural icons.

Top winning pieces include, “Man of the Year,” designed by Michael Jada Design, Clifton Park, NY; 6 x 6, designed by Liang Xiaowu Design and Associates Ltd., Shenzhen, China; 165 Charles Street, designed by Vignelli Associates, New York, NY; Otis College of Art & Design Viewbook, designed by Studio Blue, Chicago, IL.

According to Laura Shore, Mohawk's VP of Marketing Communications, “While we were impressed by the quality of the field in this year's show, we were also impressed by the diversity of work. The submissions included everything from a beautifully crafted 2 x 3" baby announcement to brand books for multinational corporations. It was interesting to see how central paper was to the execution of such a wide range of projects.”

The five winners will be featured in Mohawk's catalog called Actual Size. Mohawk will distribute these books at Mohawk Show exhibitions and other industry events throughout the year.

Top winners were selected by an impressive jury including designers Sean Adams, Partner at Adams Morioka, Los Angeles, CA; Jamie Koval, President of VSA Partners, Chicago, IL; Abbott Miller, Partner at Pentagram, NYC (chair); Cheryl Towler Weese, Partner at Studio Blue, Chicago, IL.
