[Cohoes, NY] – Mohawk Paper Mill’s recent acquisition of the Fine Papers brands from International Paper includes the purchase of some of the most well respected brands in the fine papers industry; Strathmore®, BriteHue®, Via®, Beckett® and Strathmore Artist Papers. In addition to these prestigious brands, the acquisition includes the Saybrook Converting Center in Ashtabula, Ohio. This is a state-of-the art warehousing and converting facility. Also included in the sale is the oldest paper mill west of the Allegheny Mountains, known until now as the Hamilton Mill, located in Hamilton, Ohio. This mill was the original home of the Beckett Paper Company. In honor of the heritage of the Beckett brand, and all of the men and women who have worked to create and uphold this rich legacy, Mohawk is pleased to announce that the mill will now be called The Beckett Mill. “It’s befitting that this mill, considered to be Hamilton’s oldest industrial citizen should return to its historical name just as Beckett celebrates its 157th anniversary,” says Thomas O’Connor Jr., Mohawk Chairman and CEO. Founded by William Beckett in 1848, The Beckett Mill began by making newsprint, then, in 1894 developed the industry’s first extensive range of colored cover papers. Today, 157 years later, the facility manufactures Strathmore, Beckett, Via and BriteHue papers as well as select fine art papers for Strathmore Artist Papers. For Mohawk, this facility is a perfect fit, a location that will allow the company to redefine its service to an important region. And for the people of The Beckett Mill, “Everybody’s ready. This acquisition is a great thing for this facility,” says Mill Manager Ron Raley. For more information, please call 1-800-THE MILL.
